Robbie Burns Day T-Shirts

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Jan 25th is Robbie Burns Day, and we thought we’d feature a few Robbie Burns t-shirt designs from one of our top sellers, 4am Design! For those of you who have never heard of Robbie Burns, he’s the national poet of Scotland, and Burns night is celebrated worldwide. You don’t have to be Scottish to have an appreciation for Robbie Burns, but you will have to be open minded and try HAGGIS, traditionally served with “tatties” and “neeps” (potatoes and turnips).

Of course, one can’t help to get nostalgic when the haggis is piped in by a Scotsman, full kilt and the pipes blaring. Beer and whisky (Scotch) is served with enthusiasm and Burns night usually gears up for a night of traditional Scottish dancing.

“The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men” you may have heard this expression, but it’s actually part of a Burns Poem called “To A Mouse

To close, we will end with what we think is the best all time Robbie Burns poem, and no, we’re not talking about the world famous “Auld Lang Syne” sung by millions on New Years Eve (or “Hogmany” as it’s called in Scotland), we’re talking about “Scots Wha Hae”….Braveheart anyone?

‘Scots, wha ae wi’ Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome tae yer gory bed,
Or tæ Victorie!
‘Now’s the day, and now’s the hour:
See the front o’ battle lour,
See approach proud Edward’s power -
Chains and Slaverie!
‘Wha will be a traitor knave?
Wha will fill a coward’s grave?
Wha sæ base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee!
‘Wha, for Scotland’s king and law,
Freedom’s sword will strongly draw,
Freeman stand, or Freeman fa’,
Let him on wi’ me!
‘By Oppression’s woes and pains!
By your sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!
‘Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty’s in every blow! -
Let us do or dee!’
